Montblanc created this pen in 1999 in honour of Friedrich II the Great (1712-1786), King of Prussia (1740-1786) – patron of Voltaire, despite his successful military campaigns, he was far more interested in music and philosophy than in the arts of war –, in a limited and numbered edition of 4 810 examples. 

The gold-plated barrel of this “Boheme”-sized pen is decorated with two bands of interlinking arches. The 18-carat gold nib displays superlative craftsmanship and bears the engraved royal signature “Fredericus Rex” as a reference to the monarch after which it is named.
