Blown for the first time in 1921, thanks to the intuition of
the art director of Venini 1921-1925: the painter Vittorio Zecchin. A
1580 painting by Paolo Veronese, “The Annunciation of the Virgin”,
inspired the artist to create this glasswork which has achieved
such great success that it became the company logo and, with
time, an icon of the company.

TECHNIQUE SOFFIATO: This technique takes its name from the action performed by the craftsmen when they blow air into a long metal cane attached to a piece of glass in order to expand and shape it into various shapes. This glassmaking tradition has remained unchanged for more than a thousand years. Thanks to this ancient technique and to the experience and manual skill of the master glassmakers, a simple piece of glass is transformed into artistic masterpieces that are truly one of a kind.
VITTORIO ZECCHIN: Vittorio Zecchin attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice and subsequently presented a series of glass objects made at the Barovier glass factory with painter Teodoro Wolf Ferrari at the 1914 Biennale. During the First World War, he set up a tapestry workshop in a former convent in Murano. In those same years, he exhibited his works – artistic glasses, tapestries, embroideries, and paintings, at the Biennale exhibitions in Venice, Milan, Rome, Monza, Turin, and Paris. He also taught the subject of glass and glassmaking at the Abate Zanetti school in Murano. From 1921 to 1925, he worked as artistic director of the company Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin Venini & C.” and became one of the main exponents and most important innovators in the art of Murano glassmaking.
